Kia EV2: Seat belts / Seat belt restraint system

Kia EV2 (QV1, 2026-2026) Owner's Manual / Seating and safety restraints / Seat belts / Seat belt restraint system

WARNING

  • To guarantee maximum restraint system protection while driving your Kia EV2, the seat belts must always be securely worn by every occupant whenever the vehicle is in motion.

  • Seat belts deliver their highest level of safety performance and crash energy distribution only when the seatbacks are adjusted to a fully upright position.

  • Children aged 13 and younger must always be properly and securely restrained in the rear seating positions of your Kia EV2. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If an adolescent over 13 must exceptionally be seated in the front, they must be correctly belted, and the seat should be moved as far back along its track as possible.

  • Never wear the shoulder strap under your arm or tucked behind your back. An improperly positioned shoulder belt can fail to distribute crash loads correctly and cause severe internal or skeletal injuries during an impact. The shoulder belt should always rest snugly midway over your shoulder and flat across your collarbone.

  • Never wear a seat belt directly over fragile, hard, or sharp objects stored in your pockets or clothing. If there is a sudden emergency stop or physical impact, the pressure from the belt can drive these objects inward and cause bodily damage.

  • Always avoid wearing twisted seat belts inside your Kia EV2. A twisted belt webbing cannot distribute forces evenly across the body and, under high tension in a collision, could severely cut or lacerate the skin. Always make sure the belt webbing is completely flat, straight, and untwisted before latching.

  • Regularly inspect the restraint infrastructure and be careful not to damage the belt webbing, anchor points, or mechanical hardware. If any component of the seat belt system shows signs of wear, fraying, or structural damage, have it replaced immediately.

WARNING

Seat belts in the Kia EV2 are engineered to bear directly upon the robust bony structures of the human body. They should always be worn low across the front of the pelvis, as well as snugly across the chest and shoulders as applicable. Wearing the lap section of the belt high across the soft abdominal area must be strictly avoided to prevent internal trauma.

For optimal safety, seat belts should be adjusted as firmly as possible—while maintaining a reasonable level of comfort—to provide the precise mechanical protection for which they were designed.

A loose or slack belt will allow excessive forward body displacement during a crash, drastically reducing the protection afforded to the wearer.

Care should be taken during vehicle maintenance to avoid contaminating the belt webbing with polishes, oils, chemical solvents, and particularly corrosive battery acid.

Routine cleaning of the belt straps may safely be carried out using mild soap and warm water. The seat belt assembly must be replaced immediately if the webbing becomes frayed, heavily stained, chemically contaminated, or structurally compromised. Furthermore, it is essential to replace the entire seat belt assembly after the vehicle has been involved in a severe impact, even if external damage to the hardware is not immediately obvious. Belts must never be worn with twisted straps, and each individual belt assembly must be used by only one occupant at a time; sharing a single belt or wrapping it around a child sitting on an adult's lap is extremely hazardous.

WARNING

  • No unauthorized modifications, additions, or aftermarket alterations should ever be made by the user that could interfere with the seat belt retractor mechanisms, prevent them from automatically taking up slack, or otherwise compromise the proper adjustment of the Kia EV2 seat belt assembly.

  • When fastening your seat belt, always take care to latch it into the correct dedicated buckle rather than the buckle of an adjacent seat. Inserting a belt into the wrong receiver is extremely dangerous and means you may not be protected by the restraint system properly in an accident.

  • Do not unfasten your seat belt, and do not repeatedly click it open and closed while the vehicle is in motion. Distractions or sudden loss of restraint engagement could result in a dangerous loss of vehicle control, leading to a severe accident causing death, serious personal injury, or property damage.

  • When pulling and fastening the seat belt across your torso, double-check that the strap does not pass over rigid, fragile, or sharp objects stored in your clothing that could fracture or puncture under crash loads.

  • Always verify that there is no foreign debris, dirt, or objects trapped inside the buckle receiver slot, as this can prevent the latch plate from locking securely into place.
