Buckling your seat belt

To buckle your seat belt in your Kia EV2, pull it smoothly out of the emergency locking retractor and insert the metal tab (1) directly into the buckle housing (2). You will hear a distinct, audible “click” confirming that the tab has securely locked into the buckle mechanism. The robust 3-point system is engineered to provide maximum occupant restraint and protection during daily drives.

The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after you manually adjust the lap belt portion so that it fits snugly and securely around your hips. If you lean forward in a slow, smooth, and easy motion, the internal retractor mechanism will extend smoothly and let you move around naturally within the cabin. If there is a sudden stop, harsh braking maneuver, or physical impact, however, the emergency locking retractor will instantly lock into position to hold you firmly. It will also lock automatically if you try to lean forward too quickly or abruptly.

CAUTION

Always place the lap belt portion of your Kia EV2 restraint system as low as possible and snugly across your pelvic hips, never over your soft abdomen. If the lap belt is incorrectly located over the abdomen, it may concentrate crash forces and significantly increase the chance of injury or internal trauma in the event of a sudden collision.

The arm closest to the seat belt buckle should be positioned over the belt webbing, whilst the other arm should remain under the belt, as shown clearly in the illustration. Never wear the seat belt underneath the arm closest to the door, as this dangerous routing compromises crash protection.

NOTE

If you experience any resistance and are not able to pull out the seat belt smoothly from the retractor inside your Kia EV2, firmly pull the belt out a short distance further and completely release it to reset the mechanism. You will then be able to pull the belt out smoothly and effortlessly.

Releasing the seat belt

To unfasten your restraint, firmly press the red release button (1) located inside the locking buckle. Once released, the belt webbing should automatically retract and draw back smoothly into the retractor housing.

If the belt fails to retract smoothly on its own, inspect the webbing to make sure it is not twisted, caught, or jammed against the trim, clear any obstructions, and then try releasing and retracting it again.

Adjusting the height of shoulder belt

To ensure optimal comfort and maximum safety tailored to your individual build, you can adjust the height of the shoulder belt anchor in your Kia EV2 to one of three distinct positions.

The height of the adjusted seat belt should never be positioned too close to your delicate neck, otherwise you will not receive the most effective crash protection. The upper shoulder portion should be adjusted carefully so that it lies flat across the center of your chest and midway over your shoulder near the door structure, avoiding your neck entirely.

To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor in your Kia EV2, lower or raise the height adjuster mechanism into the appropriate notch:

  • To raise the height adjuster to a higher position, simply pull it straight up.
  • To lower it, push it down whilst pressing and holding the height adjuster button (1).

Release the adjustment button to mechanically lock the anchor securely into position. Always try sliding the height adjuster up and down gently to make sure that it has fully clicked and locked into place before driving.

Improperly positioned seat belts can cause serious, preventable injuries in an accident.

WARNING

Shoulder belt positioning

Verify thoroughly that the shoulder belt anchor is firmly locked into position at the appropriate height for your height. Never position the diagonal shoulder belt across your naked neck or face. Improperly positioned seat belts can cause serious or fatal injuries during a collision.

WARNING

Seat belt replacement

After any vehicle collision, the entire seat belt assembly, anchorages, and pretensioners should be inspected and replaced if necessary, even if damage to the fabric webbing or plastic housing is not immediately apparent. Always replace any belts that show signs of wear or are not functioning properly.

A properly buckled seat belt in your Kia EV2 will be securely locked into the designated buckle on each individual seat cushion.

WARNING

Prior to buckling the rear seat belts in your Kia EV2, always inspect and ensure that the metal latch matches the correct corresponding seat belt buckle. Forcefully connecting the left or right passenger seat belt tongue into the centre buckle will fail to secure the occupant properly during an accident.

Stowing the rear seat belt

The rear seat belt buckles can be neatly stowed away in the dedicated holding pocket situated between the rear seatback and seat cushion when they are not actively in use.

  1. Insert the seat belt metal tab securely into the two holding slots located on both sides. This smart stowing feature helps keep the buckles and straps from rattling or being trapped behind or underneath the heavy seat cushions.

  2. After inserting the seat belt tab, gently tighten the belt webbing by pulling it upward to remove slack.

    TIP

When pulling out the stowed rear seat belt to wear it for a passenger, slowly and carefully pull the tab out of the guide so that the trim guide does not detach from its mounting.
