The intelligent occupant detection and seat belt warning system integrated into your Kia EV2 monitors safety compliance using advanced sensors to ensure complete protection under the following operating conditions:

Front seat belt warning light

As an immediate safety reminder for the driver and front passenger, the dedicated seat belt warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds each time you cycle the ignition to the ON position, remaining active regardless of whether the seat belts are currently fastened or unfastened. The front seat belt warning light will stay lit continuously until the restraint buckle is securely engaged. If you initiate movement and begin to drive your Kia EV2 between approximately 9 km/h (5 mph) and 20 km/h (12 mph) without the front passenger seat belt fastened, the corresponding warning light will appear on the instrument cluster.

If you accelerate past approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) without the seat belt fastened, or if you unfasten it while driving at these highway and street speeds, the dashboard warning light will begin blinking continuously and an audible warning chime will sound for a predetermined period of time. Should the seat belt be unfastened at lower speeds between 9 km/h (5 mph) and 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning indicator appears silently without triggering the flashing light or chime until you exceed the 20 km/h (12 mph) threshold.

• When the electrical system of your Kia EV2 is placed in POWER ON or DRIVE READY mode, the rear seat belt warning lights will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds to verify system functionality. The indicator will remain persistently illuminated until the respective seat belt is securely buckled into place. If no rear occupants are detected by the seat sensors, the warning light will perform its standard 6-second diagnostic illumination sequence before turning off automatically.

• If a rear passenger unfastens their seat belt while the vehicle is in motion and travelling below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light will remain solidly illuminated. If the vehicle's speed exceeds approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) while a rear belt is unbuckled, a flashing visual warning light and a recurring chime will activate for about 35 seconds. Following this interval, the warning light will stay continuously lit until the safety belt is properly refastened.

• When the Kia EV2 is switched to POWER ON or DRIVE READY, the center rear seat belt warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds. Thereafter, regardless of whether the middle seating position is occupied or empty, if the center seat belt remains unfastened, the warning light will stay actively illuminated for approximately 70 seconds.

• If the rear center seat belt is unbuckled while driving after having been previously fastened, and vehicle speed is kept below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light will stay illuminated for approximately 70 seconds. If the vehicle is moving above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light will flash in tandem with an audible warning sound for approximately 35 seconds.

• Releasing the center safety belt prematurely before your Kia EV2 comes to a complete halt will trigger an alert chime and cause the reminder light to blink. This protective warning sequence may persist for up to 35 seconds after you bring the vehicle to a stop and exit. Always make sure to unbuckle your seat belt only after the vehicle has fully stopped and parked.

• When a rear door is opened or closed while the vehicle speed is maintained under 10 km/h (6 mph):

  • The rear seat belt warning light and accompanying warning chime will temporarily suspend their active alerts, even if vehicle speed subsequently rises above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) during low-speed maneuvering.
