How to register Digital Key 2 (Card Key)

To integrate and fully leverage the advanced Digital Key 2 capabilities for your Kia EV2, you can easily register a compatible NFC card key directly within your vehicle's onboard system by following the structured registration workflow below.

1. Ensure both original smart keys are present inside the cabin before beginning the pairing process for your Kia EV2.

2. Verify that the core functionality menu is enabled and active.

   With the vehicle's power turned on, navigate through the infotainment display by touching Settings > Vehicle > Digital key > NFC card key > Use.

3. While the Kia EV2 remains powered on, place your card key directly onto the dedicated in-vehicle authentication pad (wireless charging pad), then select the Save option on the infotainment touchscreen to automatically initiate the secure pairing process.

4. Once the digital card key has been successfully saved and registered to your Kia EV2, a confirmation message will appear directly on the infotainment display screen.

TIP

• Infotainment software layouts and menu structures may evolve following system updates. For additional guidance, consult the digital user manual integrated into your vehicle's infotainment system or check the quick reference guide.

• If a digital card key is already stored and active in the vehicle, the Save menu will remain disabled. To register a replacement key, execute the removal steps detailed in the deletion section before attempting a new pairing.

• Successful registration of the card key requires the physical presence of both authorized smart keys inside the cabin of your Kia EV2.

• A digitally paired card key is strictly cryptographically bound to a single vehicle and cannot be utilized across multiple automobiles.

Drivers can effortlessly lock and unlock the doors of their Kia EV2 by tapping the card key against the exterior door handle sensor zone, or start the powertrain by positioning the card on the interior wireless charging authentication pad.

Locking/Unlocking the doors

• Holding the NFC antenna section of your registered card key against the driver or passenger door handle authentication pad (1) for longer than 2 seconds will securely lock or unlock the vehicle.

• Always verify the physical security status after locking your Kia EV2. For safety, unlocked doors will automatically re-lock after 30 seconds if no door is opened.

• Reliable operation requires precise alignment between the center of the NFC card key and the designated touch authentication zone on the exterior door handle.

NOTE

When presenting the card key to the exterior door handle authentication pad, the doors will refuse to lock and will emit an audible warning chime under specific conditions:

• When an authorized Smart Key is left inside the cabin of the Kia EV2

• When the EV button is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY state

• When any door, bonnet, or the tailgate remains ajar or open

Starting the vehicle

To power up your Kia EV2, place your registered card key onto the internal authentication pad (wireless charger pad), depress the brake pedal firmly, and press the EV button.

• Once the vehicle system is fully initialized and active, you may freely remove the card key from the charging surface.

WARNING

Because leaving the registered card key on the internal authentication pad allows the vehicle to be started instantly, never leave children or untrained occupants unattended inside the cabin to prevent severe injury or fatal accidents. Always retain possession of your key when exiting the Kia EV2 to deter unauthorized use or theft.

CAUTION

• The digital card key may occasionally fail to respond under certain operating scenarios:

  • When the card key is misaligned and fails to make flat contact with the center of the door handle pad or the wireless charging pad.

  • When the card key is held or stored directly overlapping other contactless payment or smart cards containing active NFC chips.

  • If recognition fails, withdraw the card key roughly 10 cm (4 inches) away from the pad before re-attempting firm contact.

• Subjecting the card key to severe physical bending or blunt impacts can fracture internal micro-circuitry, requiring complete replacement and re-registration.

• The NFC card key functions as a standard consumable accessory excluded from standard warranty coverage; accidental loss, mishandling, or physical damage is not eligible for free service.

• Prolonged exposure to intense radiant heat and direct sunlight inside a parked cabin can induce structural warping or electronic failure.

• Leaving the card key resting on the active wireless charging pad while driving can cause signal interference or operational glitches; always remove it after startup.

• Sandwiching the card key directly between a smartphone and a wireless charging pad during phone charging can disrupt NFC signals. Always keep them separated.

How to delete Digital Key 2 (Card key)

1. Power on your Kia EV2 using the traditional smart key, ensuring that the smart key remains securely inside the vehicle throughout the entire deletion process.

2. With the electrical system active, rest the card key on the internal wireless charging authentication pad. Access the infotainment system and proceed through Settings > Vehicle > Digital key > NFC card key > Delete.

3. Upon successful deletion of the card key from your Kia EV2, a confirmation notification will populate across the cluster display or main infotainment screen.
