Kia EV2: Door locks / Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system built into your Kia EV2 provides intelligent monitoring to help prevent accidentally leaving a rear passenger or pet unattended in the vehicle when parking and exiting.

• When you open the front driver's door after previously opening and closing a rear door and turning off your Kia EV2 ignition, an urgent notification warning message appears prominently on the instrument cluster.

  Never leave children or pets unattended inside your vehicle under any circumstances.

You can easily activate, configure, or deactivate the Rear Occupant Alert system by navigating to Setup > Vehicle > Convenience > Rear Occupant Alert through your central infotainment system interface.

WARNING

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system does not utilize weight sensors or direct optical cameras to detect living occupants or objects in the rear seat. Instead, it tracks the opening and closing history of the rear doors to remind the driver that a passenger may have been placed in the back.

CAUTION

The Rear Occupant Alert system relies on tracking rear door usage cycles. This activity history resets after the driver turns off the ignition, exits the vehicle, and locks all doors remotely using the smart keyless entry fob. Consequently, if you stop and open a rear door during a trip, the ROA warning reminder can trigger again upon your next arrival even if no rear door was reopened in between short stops. For instance, if an alert occurs, you decide not to lock the vehicle, and you resume driving, the notification cycle may re-engage.

WARNING

Electronic door locking mechanisms can occasionally fail if the main vehicle electrical system suffers an unexpected failure or power loss. Accordingly, always train young passengers on how to locate and operate the manual door release levers before an emergency occurs, ensuring they can exit the cabin independently if necessary.
