Kia EV2: Door locks / In case of an emergency

If the electrical power door lock switches fail to function—such as in the event of a discharged vehicle battery—the only way to secure the doors is by using the mechanical key in the exterior key cylinder.

Doors that lack an external key cylinder can be manually secured using the emergency latch procedure:

1. Open the target door fully.

2. Insert a mechanical key or screwdriver into the emergency door locking port and rotate it horizontally into the locked position.

3. Close the door firmly.

   TIP

   If electrical power to the door locks is lost due to a dead car battery and the tailgate is closed, you will be unable to open the tailgate until normal vehicle electrical power is fully restored.
