If you feel uncertain about how to safely open the casing or replace the internal cell, Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
To replace the smart key battery safely:
Carefully pry open the key battery housing cover using a thin, non-marring tool.
Remove the depleted cell and insert a fresh, high-quality replacement battery (CR2450). Pay close attention to orientation, making sure to align the positive and negative poles correctly.
If the replacement battery is inserted with reversed polarity, it will rapidly discharge and render the smart key completely unusable.
Reassemble the key enclosure by snapping the components back together in the exact reverse order of removal.
If you require a complete smart key replacement, Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Your smart key is engineered to provide years of hassle-free performance, though premature malfunctions can happen if the unit encounters excessive moisture or static electricity discharges. For any battery service questions, Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
CAUTION
Using an incorrect battery specification can cause permanent smart key malfunction. Always make certain to use the exact recommended battery type.
Improper disposal of spent coin batteries creates severe environmental hazards and risks to human health. Always recycle or dispose of used batteries strictly in accordance with your local environmental regulations.
