Kia EV2: Keys / Smart key. Mechanical key

Modern vehicle engineering places convenience right at your fingertips, and the advanced smart key system designed for the Kia EV2 allows you to seamlessly lock or unlock your doors and initiate vehicle power systems without ever needing to physically insert a traditional mechanical key into a cylinder.

The sophisticated smart key transmitter functions reliably when it is maintained within approximately 10 meters (33 feet) of the vehicle architecture. A network of high-frequency internal antennas strategically positioned throughout the cabin and exterior structure constantly sense when the smart key is within operational range, ensuring immediate responsiveness whenever you approach or interact with your Kia EV2.

Please note that modifying your vehicle environment, such as tinting the vehicle windows with aftermarket films—particularly heavy metalized films—may significantly interfere with the smart key transceiver's signal propagation and reduce its operational operating range over time.

Lock (1)

All perimeter doors will securely lock simultaneously if you press the dedicated lock button whilst the smart key remains within active transmission range of the vehicle. Once all entry points and doors are completely closed, the exterior hazard warning lights will flash, and an audible acoustic chime will sound precisely once to provide clear confirmation that all doors are fully locked.

If you press the lock button an additional time within a 4-second window, the hazard warning lights will flash again, and the chime will sound once more to confirm the locked status.

If any individual door remains even slightly ajar, or if the smart key is detected completely out of range, the hazard warning lights and audible chime will withhold confirmation signals. However, the moment all doors are properly closed after pressing the lock button, the hazard warning lights will blink once to signal successful securing of the vehicle.

Unlock (2)

All passenger and driver doors will instantly unlock if you press the unlock button once whilst the smart key is in range. The exterior hazard warning lights will blink twice to clearly indicate that all doors are unlocked and ready for entry.

Note that for safety and security purposes, the doors will relock automatically if you do not physically open any door within 30 seconds of pressing the unlock button.

The central locking system will intentionally inhibit the locking or unlocking functions via the smart key's exterior buttons under specific operational scenarios:

• When the vehicle power state is active in POWER ON mode.

• When you attempt to lock the vehicle doors while one or more doors remain open or unlatched.

NOTE

• Applying aftermarket window tints, especially those containing metallic layers, can obstruct the smart key's receiving frequency and diminish its functional range when operating your Kia EV2.

• If the electronic smart key becomes completely inoperative due to accidental submergence or severe exposure to water or other intrusive liquids, the repair or replacement costs will not be covered under your manufacturer's new vehicle warranty guidelines.

Tailgate unlock (3)

When you press and hold the designated tailgate release button for longer than one continuous second, the electronic latch lock will be instantly released, granting effortless cargo access to your Kia EV2.

Once the tailgate is manually or automatically opened and subsequently closed, the latch mechanism will engage and lock automatically to protect your belongings.

Remote start (4)

You can conveniently initiate your vehicle climate and electrical systems using the smart key’s dedicated remote start button.

To execute a secure remote start sequence on your Kia EV2:

1. Securely lock all vehicle doors by pressing the door lock button (4) while standing within 10 meters (33 ft) of the vehicle.

2. Within a strict 4-second window after locking the doors, press and hold the remote start button continuously for at least 2 seconds. The exterior hazard lights will flash 3 times in quick succession and the vehicle power system will engage.

Press the remote start button (4) once to safely shut down the vehicle systems when finished.

If you take no further physical action to enter and operate the vehicle controls, the system will automatically shut down 10 minutes after you initiated it remotely to conserve energy.

Whilst remote starting is active, the hazard warning lights continue to blink 3 times. If you wish to interrupt or stop the vehicle operation prematurely, simply press the remote start button (4) again.

Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) (5,6): (if equipped)

Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) is an advanced driver assistance feature engineered to help drivers effortlessly maneuver and park their vehicle by utilizing ultrasonic sensors to measure tight parking spaces and automatically control the steering wheel, gear selection, and vehicle speed for semi-autonomous parking.

Using the smart key interface, the driver can command the vehicle to move straight forward or backward remotely by pressing the dedicated forward/backward buttons on the smart key casing.

Start-up

You can easily start the vehicle power systems whenever the authenticated smart key is carried directly with you or securely placed inside the designated storage areas of the cabin.

Mechanical key

When the main battery of your electronic smart key is fully discharged or if environmental interference prevents normal wireless communication, you can still effortlessly lock or unlock your Kia EV2 driver door using the integrated mechanical key blade (2).

To access and remove the hidden mechanical key, simply pull the protective cover (1) firmly off the main smart key housing.

Smart key precautions

The electronic smart key transmitter for your Kia EV2 may occasionally fail to operate correctly if any of the following external conditions occur:

• The smart key is operated in close physical proximity to powerful radio frequency transmitters that can disrupt normal signal transmission, such as commercial radio stations or large airport facilities.

• The smart key is positioned immediately near an active mobile 2-way radio communication system.

• The smart key rests directly adjacent to a mobile smartphone, particularly during active voice calls, data streaming, or message transmission. Always avoid placing the smart key in the exact same pocket as an active mobile phone.

• Another modern vehicle's smart key system is being actively operated right next to your Kia EV2.

When the smart key does not respond correctly, test your spare transmitter or manually lock and unlock the driver door using the physical mechanical key. If operational issues persist with your smart key, have the system thoroughly diagnosed by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or certified service partner.

If you keep the smart key directly against your cell phone, the device can block or distort the key's outgoing radio frequency signals. This signal degradation is most common when the phone is actively handling calls, text messages, or email syncs. Prevent interference by keeping the smart key and your mobile phone in separate clothing pockets or compartments to maintain an adequate physical distance between the two electronic devices.

If you leave the smart key completely stationary for an extended period, its internal motion-detection function (if equipped) will temporarily enter a sleep mode to conserve battery power. Simply pick up or lift the smart key to instantly reactivate its full detection capabilities.

NOTE

Losing the smart key

A maximum of 2 individual smart keys can be programmed and registered to a single vehicle.

If you unfortunately lose both registered smart keys, you will lose the ability to power up or drive your vehicle. You must contact a professional workshop immediately for emergency recovery assistance. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner, and towing the vehicle to a secure facility if necessary to protect it from potential theft.

NOTE

Smart key

Always protect your remote key fob from water, moisture, or any other liquids, as internal electronic circuits can quickly short out and cause permanent functional failure.

NOTE

• To prevent magnetic field damage to the smart key transceiver, never leave it resting near high-powered electrical appliances such as:

  • Televisions

  • Personal computers

  • Mobile phones, cordless landline phones, and electronic battery chargers

  • Table lamps

  • Induction cookers

• If you must hand your vehicle over to a valet or parking attendant, detach and retain the mechanical key for your own personal security, providing only the smart key fob to the attendant.

• When traveling by commercial aircraft with your smart key, ensure no buttons are accidentally compressed while inside the cabin or stored luggage. Accidental button activation can emit continuous radio frequencies that interfere with sensitive aircraft avionics.

• If the smart key suffers permanent damage due to liquid ingress or water submersion, the necessary repairs or replacements will not be covered under your manufacturer vehicle warranty terms.
