Kia EV2: Lighting / High Beam Assist (HBA)

The innovative High Beam Assist function integrated into your Kia EV2 intelligently manages your vehicle illumination by automatically alternating between high and low beams. Using advanced optical detection, it evaluates ambient lighting conditions, oncoming traffic, and preceding vehicles to ensure maximum nighttime visibility without causing glare for other drivers.

With the electrical system of your Kia EV2 in the ON position, navigate through the infotainment display by selecting Setup > Vehicle > Lights > High Beam Assist to seamlessly enable or configure this automated driver assistance feature.

High Beam Assist (HBA) operation

• Once activated via the vehicle settings menu, the High Beam Assist system on your Kia EV2 functions according to the following operational logic:

  • To fully arm the system, switch your main headlight control to the AUTO position and gently push the steering column lever forward toward the instrument cluster. The dedicated High Beam Assist indicator ( ) will illuminate on your display cluster.

  • The automated high beams activate dynamically once your Kia EV2 exceeds a driving speed of 30 km/h (20 mph), and they will automatically deactivate if your speed drops below 20 km/h (12 mph).

  • The standard high beam indicator light ( ) shines brightly on the cluster panel whenever the high beams are actively projecting.

• If you choose to manually override or interact with the steering column lever while High Beam Assist is running, the Kia EV2 responds precisely as follows:

  • To temporarily flash high beams without disabling the automated assistant, pull the lever back toward you while beams are off; releasing the lever returns it to center and extinguishes the lights.

  • To force permanent high beams and completely disengage High Beam Assist, push the lever firmly forward toward the instrument cluster.

  • Switching your main headlight selector away from AUTO immediately deactivates High Beam Assist and turns on the chosen static lamp setting.

• During active operation, your Kia EV2 will automatically drop your headlights down from high beam to low beam under specific environmental triggers:

  • When the headlights of an oncoming vehicle are clearly captured.

  • When the rear taillights of a vehicle travelling ahead of you are sensed.

  • When the lighting signatures of motorcycles or bicycles are identified.

  • When surrounding street lighting or ambient illumination is bright enough to render high beams unnecessary.

  • When urban streetlights or auxiliary roadside lighting arrays flood the optical path.

Should the High Beam Assist feature encounter an internal error or operational obstruction, a Master warning light () will pop up on your instrument panel alongside a diagnostic warning notice. Promptly arrange for a qualified technician to inspect your Kia EV2. Kia strongly advises visiting an authorized Kia dealer or certified service partner for expert care.

High Beam Assist (HBA) limitations

Please note that the intelligent High Beam Assist system in your Kia EV2 may experience reduced performance or temporary unavailability under certain challenging driving conditions:

• When external vehicle light sources fail to register due to environmental or structural blocks.

• When exterior headlamp lenses are heavily obscured by layers of dust, mud, road salt, snow, or water droplets.

• When headlights remain switched off while auxiliary fog lamps are turned on.

• When roadside objects or reflections mimic the optical signature of legitimate vehicle headlamps.

• When front lamp assemblies suffer physical damage or improper aftermarket repairs.

• When headlamp aiming angles fall out of standard manufacturer calibration.

• When navigating exceptionally narrow, winding, unpaved, or steep mountain routes.

• When driving through complex intersections or sharp bends where lead vehicles are only partially visible.

• When highly reflective traffic signs, illuminated signals, or roadside mirrors distort sensor input.

• When driving past active construction zones featuring flashing warning beacons or temporary reflective markers.

• When severe weather creates wet, icy, blizzard-like, or low-visibility road environments.

• When other vehicles suddenly dart into view from behind sharp blind corners.

• When a lead vehicle tilts unevenly due to a deflated tire or while being towed on a flatbed hook.

• When dense exhaust smoke, heavy fog, thick snow flurries, or localized spray blocks light detection.
