Kia EV2: Seat belts / Seat belt precautions
Take the following vital precautions when using seat belts to guarantee maximum safety during every journey inside your Kia EV2.
WARNING
All occupants of the vehicle must wear their seat belts at all times. Seat belts and child restraints reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries for all occupants in the event of a collision or sudden stop. Without a seat belt, occupants could be shifted too close to a deploying air bag, strike the interior structure or be thrown from the vehicle. Properly worn seat belts greatly reduce these hazards.
Always follow the essential safety precautions about seat belts, air bags and occupant seating configurations contained within this manual to ensure complete protection for everyone on board your Kia EV2.
Infant or small child
You should always be fully aware of the specific legal requirements and safety standards in your country regarding youth protection. Child and/or infant safety seats must be properly placed, secured, and installed exclusively in the rear passenger seats of your Kia EV2.

WARNING
Every single person in your vehicle needs to be properly and securely restrained at all times, including infants and young children. Never hold a child in your arms, on your lap, or unbuckled when riding in a vehicle. The violent deceleration forces created during a crash will instantly tear the child from your arms and throw them violently against the hard interior cabin structures. Always use an approved child restraint system appropriate for your child's specific height and weight.
NOTE
Small children are best protected from injury in an accident when properly restrained in the rear seat by a child restraint system that meets the regulatory requirements of the Safety Standards of your country. Before buying any child restraint system for your Kia EV2, make sure that it features an official label certifying compliance with national Safety Standards. The restraint must be strictly appropriate for your child's height and weight. Check the label on the child restraint for this vital information. Refer to Child Restraint System (CRS).
Larger children
Children who have grown too large for dedicated child restraint systems should always occupy the rear seat of your Kia EV2 and use the available standard lap/shoulder belts. The lap portion of the belt should be firmly fastened and snugged tightly across the hips as low as possible. Check periodically to see if the belt position has shifted, as a child's natural squirming could put the belt out of proper alignment. Children are afforded the absolute maximum safety in the event of an accident when they are restrained by a proper seat belt system in the rear seat. If a larger child (over age 13) must be seated in the front passenger seat, the child should be securely restrained by the available lap/shoulder belt and the seat should be adjusted all the way back into the rearmost position. Children age 13 and under should always be restrained securely in the rear seat. NEVER place a child age 13 and under in the front seat. NEVER place a rear-facing child safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle.
If the shoulder belt portion slightly touches or crosses the child's delicate neck or face, try positioning the child closer to the center of the vehicle. If the shoulder belt still touches their face or neck despite adjustment, they need to be returned to an appropriate booster or child restraint system.

Never allow a shoulder belt to be in contact with a child's neck or face whilst the vehicle is in motion.

If seat belts are not properly worn, routed, and adjusted on children, there is an extreme risk of death or serious injury during a sudden stop or collision.
Pregnant women
The consistent use of a seat belt is strongly recommended for pregnant women to lessen the chance of severe injury or trauma in an accident. When a seat belt is used in your Kia EV2, the lap belt portion should always be placed as low and snugly as possible across the pelvic hips, never across the soft abdomen. For specific, personalized medical recommendations regarding travel, consult your physician.

Pregnant women must never place the lap portion of the safety belt over the area of the abdomen where the fetus is located or high above the abdomen where the belt could apply direct crushing force to the fetus during a sudden impact.
Injured person
A seat belt should always be used when an injured person is being transported in a vehicle. When this transport is necessary, you should consult a qualified physician beforehand for specific recommendations and positioning advice.
One person per belt
Two people (including children or infants) should never attempt to share or use a single seat belt simultaneously. Doing so defeats the engineered safety parameters and exponentially increases the severity of injuries in the event of an accident.
Do not lie down
To reduce the chance of injuries in the event of an accident and to achieve the maximum protective effectiveness of the restraint system, all passengers should be sitting upright and the front seats should be in an upright vertical position when the car is moving. A seat belt cannot provide proper protection if a person is lying down flat across the rear seat or if the front seatback is in an excessively reclined position.
WARNING
Riding with a reclined seatback significantly increases your chance of serious or fatal injuries in the event of a collision or sudden stop. The protection offered by your restraint system (including seat belts and air bags) is greatly reduced by reclining your seat away from upright. Seat belts must remain snug against your hips and chest to work properly. The more the seatback is reclined, the greater the chance that an occupant's hips will slide underneath the lap belt, causing severe internal injuries, or that the occupant's neck could strike the upper shoulder belt. Drivers and passengers should always sit well back in their seats, properly belted, and with the seatbacks locked firmly upright.
