Kia EV2: Driving your vehicle / Regenerative braking system

The regenerative braking system allows you to charge the battery when you use the brakes to stop the vehicle.

Paddle shifter

Use the steering wheel paddle shifters in your Kia EV2 to dynamically adjust the regenerative braking level from 0 to 3 during deceleration, enhancing both driving comfort and energy recovery.

• Pull the left side ( ) of the paddle shifter to increase regenerative braking and deceleration.

• Pull the right side ( ) of the paddle shifter to decrease regenerative braking and deceleration.

• The selected regenerative braking level will be clearly displayed on the instrument cluster of your Kia EV2.

Regenerative braking system according to DRIVE MODE

• The regenerative braking level is saved before the vehicle is turned off.

• The setting returns to 1 when you restart the vehicle from 0.

• The initial setting of the regenerative braking level and the adjustable range vary according to the selected DRIVE MODE.

Non-operating conditions

• You pull the left ( ) and right ( ) sides of the paddle shifter simultaneously.

• Cruise Control (CC) or Smart Cruise Control (SCC) is operating.

• The vehicle's high-voltage battery is fully charged (100%).

i-Pedal

The advanced i-Pedal feature in the Kia EV2 is controlled entirely using the accelerator pedal, allowing you to accelerate, decelerate, and completely stop the vehicle smoothly without needing to touch the brake pedal or use the paddle shifters manually.

• Pull the left side ( ) of the paddle shifter for more than approximately 1 second at any regenerative braking level.

  i-Pedal will be activated and ( ) indicator will appear on the instrument cluster.

• Pull the left side ( ) of the paddle shifter again for more than approximately 1 second whilst i-Pedal is activated.

  i-Pedal will be deactivated and ( ) indicator will turn off on the instrument cluster.

CAUTION

When you use i-Pedal to stop or park the vehicle on a steep hill, be sure to engage the brake pedal.

NOTE

• When i-Pedal is deactivated, ( ) indicator on the instrument cluster will turn gray.

• When i-Pedal is activated, ( ) indicator on the instrument cluster will turn green.

• After restarting whilst i-Pedal is available, the regenerative braking level is maintained and turns back on. If the regenerative braking level is at 0, it will turn on at level 1.

i-Pedal settings

Electric Vehicle i-PEDAL

• Tap Electric Vehicle > > i-PEDAL from the infotainment system whether to use i-Pedal whilst reversing.

• If Disable i-PEDAL when Reversing is selected, i-Pedal will turn off when shifting into R (Reverse), and it will automatically turn on once the vehicle is shifted to D (Drive) and driving above 20 km/h (12 mph).

• If Disable i-PEDAL when Reversing is not selected, i-Pedal will automatically turn on when shifting into D (Drive) or R (Reverse).

Non-operating conditions

• On a road with a steep uphill or downhill slope.

• At the point where a slope ends.

• When you start and stop repeatedly on an inclined road.

WARNING

• Do not solely rely on i-Pedal to stop the vehicle. Stopping the vehicle with i-Pedal may not be possible depending on vehicle and road conditions. Pay attention to the road conditions ahead and engage the brake pedal if necessary.

• Avoid increasing the regenerative braking level suddenly on slippery roads (such as snowy or icy conditions). Doing so might cause the tyres to slip and the vehicle to skid, which is dangerous due to the loss of the vehicle’s steering force.

CAUTION

The regenerative braking level cannot be changed using the paddle shifter in the following cases:

• You pull the left ( ) and right ( ) sides of the paddle shifter simultaneously.

• Cruise Control (CC) or Smart Cruise Control (SCC) is operating.

• The vehicle's high-voltage battery is fully charged (100%).

• You install a trailer.: (if equipped)
