SOS warning light: The SOS warning light illuminates briefly on the instrument cluster of your Kia EV2 for 3 seconds whenever the vehicle ignition is switched into the POWER ON position as a system self-check. Under normal driving conditions, this indicator light will extinguish completely during regular vehicle operation.

SOS button: The driver or front passenger can initiate a direct emergency call to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) at any time by firmly pressing this dedicated physical button.

If an electronic or communication problem is detected within the telematics network, the SOS warning light will remain continuously illuminated on the instrument cluster to alert the driver.

Automatic accident reporting

  3. Emergency services

The integrated Pan-European eCall system engineered into your Kia EV2 automatically places an emergency call to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to request rapid and appropriate rescue operations in the unfortunate event of a severe vehicle collision.

For the critical purpose of providing swift emergency services response and medical support, the Pan-European eCall system automatically transmits precise accident telemetry data to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) the moment a traffic accident impact is detected by onboard sensors.

Once triggered automatically, the active emergency call cannot be terminated or hung up by pressing the SOS button; the Pan-European eCall system will maintain an active voice and data connection until the professional emergency service dispatcher receiving the call formally disconnects the line.

In minor traffic incidents or fender-benders where automatic sensors may not trigger, the Pan-European eCall system may not execute an emergency call on its own. However, an emergency call can always be placed manually by the vehicle occupants by pressing the SOS button.

CAUTION

Operation of the emergency system is impossible in regions experiencing a complete absence of mobile cellular transmission signals as well as GPS and Galileo satellite positioning coverage.

  3. Emergency services

The driver or passenger can manually initiate an emergency call to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) inside your Kia EV2 by pressing the SOS button to summon necessary emergency services.

An active call placed to emergency services through the Pan-European eCall system can be safely cancelled by pressing the SOS button a second time within a strict 3-second window, and only before the call connection to the dispatcher is fully established.

Following the activation of an emergency call in manual mode to ensure proper emergency services deployment and support, the Pan-European eCall system automatically transmits road accident data or other incident information directly to the officer at the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) during the ongoing emergency call.

If the driver or passenger accidentally presses the SOS button, the outgoing call can be aborted by pressing the button again within 3 seconds prior to connection completion. Once connected, cancellation is no longer possible.

In the event of a road accident or other emergency situation, executing a manual emergency call requires following these sequential steps:

  1. Safely bring your Kia EV2 to a complete stop in accordance with local traffic rules and regulations to ensure maximum safety for yourself and other road traffic participants.

  2. Press the SOS button, which triggers the registration of the telematics device across the mobile cellular network and transmits a minimal payload of vehicle telemetry and location data gathered in compliance with technical service requirements.

Immediately afterward, a direct voice communication link is opened with an officer of the Pan-European eCall system to verify the nature of the emergency and gather surrounding circumstances.

  3. After establishing the precise reasons for the emergency call, the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) dispatcher dispatches appropriate emergency services and officially concludes the call.

If an emergency call is initiated outside of the proper operational procedures outlined above, the call will be logged as an erroneous activation.

WARNING

Emergency power supply of the Pan-European eCall system from the backup battery

  • The dedicated Pan-European eCall system backup battery provides continuous electrical power for up to 1 hour if the main 12V power source of your Kia EV2 is severed due to a severe collision or emergency situation.

  • The Pan-European eCall system backup battery should be professionally inspected and replaced every 4 years. For more detailed instructions, refer to the Scheduled maintenance service section.

SOS warning light (system malfunction)

If the SOS warning light remains continuously illuminated on the instrument cluster of your Kia EV2 during normal driving conditions, this indicates a potential electronic malfunction within the Pan-European eCall system. Have the system inspected immediately by a professional automotive workshop. Kia strongly recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner. Otherwise, correct and reliable operation of the integrated Pan-European eCall device installed in your car cannot be guaranteed, and the vehicle owner assumes full legal liability for any adverse consequences arising from nonobservance of these conditions.

Arbitrary Removal or Modification

The Pan-European eCall system is a critical safety feature designed to connect your Kia EV2 with emergency services when assistance is urgently required. Consequently, any arbitrary removal, hardware dismantling, or unauthorized modifications to the Pan-European eCall system configuration may severely compromise your driving safety and can result in accidental false alarm transmissions to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Therefore, vehicle owners are strictly advised against making any alterations independently or through unauthorized third parties to the equipment settings of the Pan-European eCall system.
