Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction

  1. Check Driver Assistance system.

When the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system in your Kia EV2 encounters an operational fault or fails to work properly, the master warning light ( Kia EV2 master warning indicator icon on the instrument cluster) and the dedicated Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light ( Kia EV2 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist status indicator light icon) illuminate on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a descriptive diagnostic warning message that remains visible for several seconds.

If this error condition occurs, you should arrange to have your Kia EV2 inspected by a qualified professional technician. Kia strongly recommends scheduling an appointment with an authorized Kia dealer or certified service partner to diagnose and resolve the issue safely.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist disabled

  1. Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured.

When foreign material, such as heavy snow, slush, or driving rain, accumulates on the exterior windscreen directly over the area housing the front view camera, optical detection performance can degrade significantly, temporarily limiting or disabling the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist functions on your Kia EV2.

Whenever this environmental obstruction happens, a clear notification message along with the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light ( Kia EV2 instrument cluster warning indicator icon for disabled speed limit assist) pop up on your instrument display.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist will automatically resume normal operation once you safely clear away any foreign debris, dirt, snow, or moisture from the optical sensor zone. Always ensure your vehicle's camera areas remain clean and unobstructed.

If Intelligent Speed Limit Assist still refuses to function correctly after you have thoroughly cleaned the sensor glass and surrounding windscreen area, prompt inspection by a professional workshop is advised. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer or certified service partner for expert assistance.

WARNING

  • Please note that even if an explicit warning message or indicator light fails to appear on your display panel, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may still be operating with reduced accuracy or fail to function properly under adverse conditions.

  • If you restart your Kia EV2 while the external sensors remain physically blocked, covered, or mechanically damaged, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist will remain disabled or impaired until the obstruction or fault is completely resolved.

TIP

You can review detailed active warning messages at any time by navigating to the service message log within the utility information view of your Kia EV2 instrument cluster.

Limitations of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist on your Kia EV2 may display abnormal behavior, deliver delayed reactions, or operate unexpectedly under the following challenging circumstances:

  • The road sign is dirty, faded, or difficult to read.

    • The road sign is difficult to perceive due to severe inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain, blinding snow, or dense fog.

    • The road sign has been physically bent, damaged, or installed at an unusual viewing angle.

    • The road sign is partially blocked from view by surrounding physical objects, tree branches, or deep shadows.

  • The road signs do not conform to the standard design layout expected by Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.

    • The specific text, typography, or pictorial graphics printed on the sign diverge from standard regulatory designs recognized by the system.

    • The road sign is positioned awkwardly between the main travel lane and an exit ramp, or directly between diverging road forks.

    • A temporary speed sign is physically attached to another moving vehicle.

  • The distance between your Kia EV2 and the targeted road sign is excessively far.

  • The road sign is mounted at an unusually high elevation far above the driving surface.

  • Your vehicle is traveling at a high velocity, leaving insufficient time for the optical processing system to recognize and evaluate the road sign.

  • The road signs feature integrated internal or external illumination that distorts visual capture.

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist mistakenly interprets numerical figures or pictorial elements on commercial billboards, street advertisements, or other non-regulatory signs as official speed limits.

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist detects and reads a speed limit sign located on an adjacent parallel road.

  • Your turn signal is activated continuously or frequently while driving in a lane directly adjacent to an exit lane.

  • Driving closely behind a large preceding vehicle that blocks the forward camera's line of sight.

  • Multiple contrasting traffic signs are clustered closely together along the roadside.

  • A minimum speed limit sign is incorrectly identified and processed as a maximum speed limit sign.

  • The minimum speed limit indication is painted directly onto the asphalt surface of the road.

  • Ambient brightness changes abruptly, such as when your Kia EV2 rapidly enters or exits a highway tunnel.

  • Headlights are turned off, or headlight illumination is weak during night driving or inside unlit tunnels.

  • Intense direct glare from the sun severely obstructs the field of view of the front view camera.

  • Road signs are obscured or difficult to recognize due to harsh reflections from sunlight, bright street lamps, or the high beams of oncoming vehicles.

  • The onboard navigation map database or GPS positioning information contains outdated data or errors.

  • Cellular or data communication with the online map server is unstable or temporarily disconnected.

  • You choose not to follow the active route guidance provided by the navigation system.

  • You are driving your Kia EV2 along sharply winding or continuously curving roadway sections.

  • You are traversing physical speed bumps, or driving up, down, or across steep inclines and uneven terrain.

  • The vehicle body is experiencing heavy mechanical vibration or shaking.

  • You are driving on a newly constructed road that has not yet been mapped in the system database.

  • You are driving through an active road construction zone with temporary signage layouts.

  • The navigation software undergoes an automated background update while the vehicle is in motion.

  • The vehicle's navigation system restarts unexpectedly while driving.

  • There is an active regional transition involving a change of country.

    • Your Kia EV2 crosses an international national border.

    • The country setting is manually modified via the system country selection menu.

WARNING

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is strictly a supplemental assistance function designed to aid you in maintaining awareness of posted speed limits. This system may occasionally fail to display correct speed limits or control vehicle speed accurately.

  • Ultimate legal accountability and responsibility for obeying local speed limits always rests entirely with the driver.

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may require up to 15 seconds of calibration time to become fully operational after you start your Kia EV2 or initialize and restart the front view camera.

TIP

For more detailed information regarding the general operational limitations of the front view camera system, please consult the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion) documentation section.

    Blind Spot Mirrors

If equipped, there is a small convex mirror built into the upper and outer corner of the driver outside mirror. It can show objects that may be in the vehicle's blind zone.

    Actual Mirror View

When the approaching vehicle is a long distance away, the image in the main mirror is small and near the inboard edge of the mirror. As the vehicle gets closer, the image in the main mirror gets larger and moves outboard. As the vehicle enters the blind zone, the image transitions from the main mirror to the blind spot mirror. When the vehicle is in the blind zone, the image only appears in the blind spot mirror.
