Driver Attention Warning malfunction

  1. Check Driver Assistance system.

When the Driver Attention Warning system in your Kia EV2 experiences an operational fault or fails to function correctly, the master warning light ( Kia EV2 master warning indicator light icon on the instrument cluster) illuminates on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a descriptive diagnostic warning notification that stays visible for several seconds.

If this error condition occurs, you should arrange to have your Kia EV2 inspected by a qualified professional technician. Kia strongly recommends scheduling an appointment with an authorized Kia dealer or certified service partner to diagnose and resolve the issue safely.

Driver Attention Warning disabled

When foreign material, such as heavy snow, slush, or driving rain, accumulates on the exterior windscreen directly over the area housing the front view camera, the front radar cover, the bumper, or optical sensor zones, detection performance can degrade significantly, temporarily limiting or disabling the Driver Attention Warning system on your Kia EV2.

Whenever this environmental obstruction happens, a clear notification message along with the master warning light ( Kia EV2 instrument cluster warning indicator icon for disabled driver attention warning) pop up on your instrument display. Please note that this temporary state does not indicate a permanent hardware malfunction of Driver Attention Warning.

Driver Attention Warning will automatically resume normal operation once you safely clear away any foreign debris, dirt, snow, or moisture from the sensor components.

If Driver Attention Warning still refuses to function correctly after you have thoroughly cleaned the sensor glass, removed environmental build-up, or cleared physical obstructions such as a towed trailer or cargo carrier from the rear bumper, prompt inspection by a professional workshop is advised. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer or certified service partner for expert assistance.

WARNING

  • In the event of a blocked or malfunctioning sensor state, the impaired status may persist even after restarting your Kia EV2, keeping the Driver Attention Warning system from operating properly until resolved.

  • Please note that even if an explicit warning message or indicator light fails to appear on your display panel, Driver Attention Warning may still be operating with reduced accuracy or fail to function properly.

  • Driver Attention Warning may fail to operate properly in wide-open areas devoid of detectable surroundings, or when the monitoring sensors remain covered with foreign material immediately after you turn your Kia EV2 ON.

TIP

You can review detailed active warning messages at any time by navigating to the utility information view of your Kia EV2 instrument cluster.

Limitations of Driver Attention Warning

Driver Attention Warning on your Kia EV2 may display abnormal behavior, deliver delayed reactions, or operate unexpectedly under the following challenging circumstances:

  • When driving aggressively, such as executing rapid acceleration maneuvers or taking high-speed corners.

  • In congested driving situations involving frequent, sudden lane changes and abrupt speed variations.

  • When other integrated sub-functions of the Driver Assistance system, such as Lane Keeping Assist, are actively taking control of the vehicle steering or dynamics.

  • When roadway lane markings are severely blurred, faded, or completely erased from the asphalt surface.

  • When a vehicle cuts in

    2. Vehicle ahead

If another motorist suddenly cuts in directly ahead of your Kia EV2, the Leading Departure Alert function may experience reduced tracking reliability and fail to operate properly.

  • When the vehicle ahead sharply steers

    1. Your vehicle

    2. Vehicle ahead

If the vehicle traveling directly ahead makes a sharp turn to the left, right, or executes an abrupt U-turn, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may not operate properly.

  • When the vehicle ahead abruptly departs

    1. Your vehicle

If the vehicle ahead initiates an extremely sudden or high-acceleration departure from a standstill, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may not operate properly.

  • When a pedestrian or cyclist is between you and the vehicle ahead

If a pedestrian, cyclist, or other vulnerable road user steps or crosses into the space between your Kia EV2 and the vehicle ahead, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may not operate properly.

  • When in a parking lot

When navigating tight parking structures, if a previously parked vehicle ahead drives away or backs out relative to your position, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may occasionally issue a false alert indicating that the parked vehicle is driving away.

  • When driving at a tollgate or intersection

If you pass through a tollgate or complex intersection densely packed with moving traffic, or if you drive along multi-lane sections where roadways frequently merge or divide, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert may not operate properly.

TIP

Please note that Driver Attention Warning may require up to 15 seconds of calibration time to become fully operational after you restart your Kia EV2 or initialize the front view camera.

TIP

For more detailed technical information regarding the general operational characteristics of the front view camera, please consult the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion) documentation section.

    Blind Spot Mirrors

If equipped, there is a small convex mirror built into the upper and outer corner of the driver outside mirror. It can show objects that may be in the vehicle's blind zone.

When the approaching vehicle is a long distance away, the image in the main mirror is small and near the inboard edge of the mirror. As the vehicle gets closer, the image in the main mirror gets larger and moves outboard. As the vehicle enters the blind zone, the image transitions from the main mirror to the blind spot mirror. When the vehicle is in the blind zone, the image only appears in the blind spot mirror.
