Kia EV2: Charging electric vehicle / DC charge

Kia EV2 (QV1, 2026-2026) Owner's Manual / Electric vehicle guide / Charging electric vehicle / DC charge

You can rapidly replenish your Kia EV2 at high-power DC fast-charging stations located along major highways and urban corridors. Always consult the specific operator guidelines and user instructions provided for each unique DC charger model.

Frequent reliance on high-output DC fast charging can accelerate normal battery thermal wear and diminish long-term cell capacity over extended periods.

Limit DC fast charging to instances where speed is essential, relying primarily on standard AC methods to help maximize the lifespan of your high-voltage battery pack.

Physical designs, cable management systems, and screen interfaces at public charging stations will vary according to the individual equipment manufacturer.

How to connect DC charger

  1. Firmly depress the brake pedal and engage the electronic parking brake.
  2. Turn all auxiliary switches OFF, ensure the transmission is shifted securely into P (Park), and power down your Kia EV2 entirely.
  3. Open the exterior charging door.

For more details, refer to Charging door.

  4. Inspect the DC charging connector pins and vehicle inlet to guarantee there is no dirt, moisture, or foreign buildup.
  5. Grab the heavy-duty connector handle and push it firmly into the vehicle DC inlet until the locking mechanism engages. Ensure a complete connection to avoid dangerous overheating risks. Follow the on-screen prompts on the DC charging station terminal to authorize payment and initiate power flow.
  6. Confirm that the high-voltage battery charging indicator light (Kia EV2 active DC charging status indicator light) on the dashboard lights up. Power transfer is inactive if the charging indicator light (Kia EV2 inactive DC charging status indicator light) is unlit.

If the connector fails to register properly, detach the plug and firmly plug it back into the inlet.

To protect battery health in extreme sub-zero temperatures, DC fast charging capabilities may be temporarily throttled or unavailable.

  7. Once the high-power DC charging session initiates, the projected time to completion will appear on the instrument cluster display for about 1 minute. This time estimate will reappear briefly if you open the driver door during active high-speed replenishment.

Checking charging status

When you charge the high voltage battery of your Kia EV2, you can conveniently check the exact charge level and energy replenishment progress directly from outside the vehicle.

For more details, refer to Charge indicator light for electric vehicle.

How to disconnect DC charger

  1. Remove the charging connector when you are finished using the DC charger or when energy replenishment for your Kia EV2 is complete. Refer to the respective DC charger company’s manual for details about how to disconnect the charging connector.
  2. Completely close the exterior charging door.

    CAUTION

You might hear intermittent high frequency noise from outside the vehicle when charging your Kia EV2 at old DC charging stations or DC charging stations with communication delay. This noise occurs when the vehicle reduces electromagnetic waves on its own to maintain charging. This is normal and does not affect charging or the performance of the vehicle.

    NOTE

    • Do not charge the vehicle when it is already fully charged. If you do so, some DC chargers will display an error message.

    • If you cannot open the charging door due to freezing weather, lightly tap or remove any ice near the charging door. Do not try to open the charging door by force. Doing so might damage it.

    • The vehicle uses the air conditioner to control the temperature of the high voltage battery. The air conditioner compressor and cooling fan operation might generate noise. The use of the cooling system for the high voltage battery might degrade the air conditioner’s performance during summer.

    • Even though you can charge with the EV button in the START position, for your safety, start charging when the EV button is in the OFF position and the gear is shifted to P (Park). After you begin charging, you can use electrical components such as the radio by pressing the EV button in the POWER ON position.

Whilst charging, you cannot shift the gear from P (Park) to any other gear.

    • Depending on the condition and durability of the high voltage battery, charger specifications, and ambient temperature, the time required for charging the battery might vary.

    • Use a charging cable that is shorter than 30 m when using a DC charger. Cables longer than 30 m may not ensure electromagnetic compatibility and should not be used.
