Kia EV2: Charging electric vehicle / AC charge

Kia EV2 (QV1, 2026-2026) Owner's Manual / Electric vehicle guide / Charging electric vehicle / AC charge

How to connect AC charger

  1. Firmly depress the brake pedal and securely engage the mechanical parking brake.
  2. Turn all unnecessary electrical switches OFF, shift the gear selector smoothly into P (Park), and turn your Kia EV2 ignition OFF. If you inadvertently initiate a charging session without the transmission being in P (Park), the vehicle will automatically shift into P (Park) to enable safe energy transfer.
  3. Open the exterior charging door flap.

For more details, refer to Charging door.

  4. Carefully inspect the charging connector and vehicle inlet to make sure there is no accumulated dust or foreign debris.
  5. Firmly grasp the insulated charging connector handle and insert it straight into the Kia EV2 charging inlet until it clicks completely into place. Ensure the connector is pushed all the way in, as a loose connection between the terminals can cause hazardous electrical resistance or fire.

For more details, refer to Precautions for charging the electric vehicle.

  6. To begin power delivery, plug the station's charging cable into the live electrical outlet of your local AC charging station.
  7. Verify that the high-voltage battery charging indicator light (Kia EV2 instrument cluster active charging indicator light icon) on the instrument cluster illuminates to confirm active power flow. Note that charging is not active when the charging indicator light (Kia EV2 instrument cluster inactive charging indicator light icon) remains turned off. If the charging connector and plug are not securely seated, unplug and reconnect the cable to establish proper contact.

  8. Once charging commences, the digital instrument cluster will display the estimated charging duration for approximately 1 minute.

The instrument cluster will also display the estimated remaining charging time for about 1 minute if you open the driver-side door while power replenishment is underway. If you have configured scheduled charging or automated cabin climate pre-conditioning, the estimated time indicator on the cluster will display as “--”.

Checking charging status

When you plug in and charge the high-voltage battery of your Kia EV2, you can easily monitor the exact progress and charge level from outside the vehicle using the exterior indicator lights.

For more details, refer to Charge indicator light for electric vehicle.

How to disconnect AC charger

  1. When the battery replenishment cycle is fully complete, unlock and remove the charging plug from the electrical outlet of the AC charging station.
  2. Firmly grasp the charging connector handle and pull it straight out (2) while depressing the mechanical unlock button (1) located on the connector housing.

  3. Securely snap the protective weather caps back onto both the charging connector and plug terminals to shield them from moisture and foreign particles.
  4. Swing the exterior charging door shut and press it firmly until it latches flush against the body of your Kia EV2.
  5. If you are utilizing a personal portable charging connector, neatly coil the cord and store it securely in the dedicated under-floor cable compartment.

    NOTE

    • If ice accumulation during freezing weather prevents the charging door from opening, gently tap around the flap or carefully clear away the frost. Never force the charging door open mechanically, as doing so can crack or fracture the hinge mechanism.

    • Although emergency power systems allow charging while the EV button is in various positions, always ensure your Kia EV2 is powered down with the EV button in the OFF position and the gear set to P (Park) before connecting cables. Once charging is safely underway, you can activate accessory features like the audio system by pressing the EV button into the POWER ON position.

    • AM/FM radio reception may experience minor interference or reduced signal quality while AC charging is active due to inverter frequencies.

    • For safety reasons, the transmission gear selector remains completely locked in P (Park) and cannot be shifted while the vehicle is plugged into a charger.

    • Total charging times will vary dynamically based on the current state and health of the high-voltage battery, maximum charger power outputs, and prevailing ambient outdoor temperatures.

    Immediately stop charging

To safely terminate an active energy transfer session while utilizing an AC charger, DC fast charger, or portable trickle charger with your Kia EV2, follow these precise step-by-step instructions: Touch the electronic capacitive lock sensor located on the exterior driver door handle, or press the main door unlock button on your smart key fob...
