Towing service

1. Wheel dollies

If towing is necessary for your Kia EV2, we strongly recommend having it done by an authorised Kia dealer or a commercial tow-truck service.

Proper lifting and towing procedures are necessary to prevent any structural damage to the vehicle. The use of wheel dollies (1) or a flatbed is highly recommended.

WARNING

Side and curtain air bag

If your Kia EV2 is equipped with side and curtain air bags, set the vehicle to the OFF position when the vehicle is being towed. The side and curtain air bags may deploy unexpectedly when the vehicle is in the POWER ON position and the rollover sensor erroneously detects the motion as a rollover situation.

NOTE

• Your Kia EV2 cannot be towed with its tyres directly on the ground. The use of wheel dollies or a flatbed transport is recommended.

• If the EPB does not release normally, load your Kia EV2 onto a flatbed tow truck and have your vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

When flatbed is unavailable

A 2-wheel drive Kia EV2 can be towed with the opposite tyres on the ground (without dollies) provided that the parking brake is fully released before turning off the vehicle.

If you must tow the vehicle using only two wheels, safely lift the driven wheels off the ground before moving the vehicle.

CAUTION

• If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, or if the Kia EV2 is being towed with the driven wheels touching the ground, always use a towing dolly under the driven wheels.

• Do not tow with sling-type equipment. Use professional wheel lift or flatbed equipment.

• Do not tow the Kia EV2 backwards with the driven wheels on the ground, as this may cause severe internal mechanical damage to the vehicle.

Precautions when moving a short distance using towing hook and so on before towing vehicle

For 2WD vehicle

Move short distances within 100 m (328 ft) at a safe speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or less only when loading your Kia EV2 onto a tow truck or if the vehicle needs to be repositioned.

At this time, the gear must be in the N (Neutral) position and the parking brake must be completely released. If it is impossible to operate the gear selector and parking brake, move the Kia EV2 by using dollies, tyre skates, or similar equipment with the front wheels—serving as the driving wheels—properly lifted.

Removable towing hook

1. Open the tailgate of your Kia EV2, and carefully take out the removable towing hook (2) from the designated tool case compartment (1).

2. Remove the access hole cover by firmly pressing on one side of the cover integrated into the bumper of your Kia EV2.

3. Install the towing hook by turning it firmly in a clockwise direction into the threaded hole until it is fully secured and tightened.

4. Remove the towing hook promptly after use and securely reinstall the bumper hole cover to maintain the vehicle appearance.

Emergency towing

WARNING

• Use extreme caution when towing your Kia EV2 on public roads. A qualified driver must remain inside the vehicle at all times to steer it and operate the braking system.

• Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving manoeuvres which would place excessive mechanical stress on the emergency towing hook and the towing cable or chain. The hardware may break unexpectedly and cause serious injury or vehicle damage.

• If your disabled Kia EV2 is unable to move freely, do not forcibly continue towing. We strongly recommend contacting an authorised Kia dealer or a commercial tow truck service for professional assistance.

• Always attempt to tow the vehicle as straight ahead as possible to prevent side-load stress.

• Keep a safe distance away from the tensioned tow line during the entire towing operation.

• Use a certified towing strap less than 5 m (16 ft) long. Attach a high-visibility white or red cloth (about 30 cm (12 inches) wide) directly in the middle of the strap for easy visibility to other motorists.

• Drive carefully and maintain steady tension so that the towing strap does not become slack or loosen during transport.

• A licensed driver must be in the vehicle for steering and braking operations when your Kia EV2 is towed, and all other passengers must remain outside the vehicle.

CAUTION

• Always attach the towing strap securely exclusively to the designated tow hook.

• Using any structural portion of your Kia EV2 other than the approved tow hooks for towing may severely damage the vehicle body and chassis.

• Use only a cable, chain, or strap specifically engineered and certified for emergency vehicle recovery. Securely fasten it to the provided towing hook.

• Accelerate or decelerate your Kia EV2 in a slow and gradual manner whilst maintaining consistent tension on the tow line to initiate movement safely.

NOTE

• Emergency towing should be performed only on hard-surfaced paved roads for short distances and at reduced speeds. Furthermore, the wheels, axles, power train, steering, and brakes must all be in operable condition.

• Do not use the emergency tow hooks to pull your Kia EV2 out of deep mud, sand, or other extreme situations from which the vehicle cannot drive out under its own power.

• Avoid towing any vehicle that is heavier than the towing vehicle itself.

• The drivers of both vehicles should establish clear communication throughout the towing process.

• Before emergency recovery, inspect the hook thoroughly to ensure it is undamaged.

• Fasten the towing cable securely without introducing slack.

• Do not jerk the hook; apply pulling force steadily.

• To avoid damaging the anchor point, do not pull from an angle. Always pull straight ahead.

Emergency towing precautions

• Start your Kia EV2 to the POWER ON position so the steering wheel mechanism remains unlocked.

• Shift the transmission gear selector to the N (Neutral) position.

• Completely release the electronic parking brake.

• Press the brake pedal with greater force than usual because active brake booster assistance will be reduced.

• Expect heavier steering effort since the electric power steering system will be disabled.

• If you are navigating a long descent, the braking system may overheat and reduce stopping performance. Stop periodically to let the brakes cool down.

• Your Kia EV2 should be towed at a speed of 25 km/h (15 mph) or less within a maximum distance of 20 km (12 miles).

• To prevent serious damage to the high-voltage power electric system, limit your vehicle speed to 15 km/h (10 mph) and distance to 1.5 km (1 mile) when towing.

CAUTION

• If your Kia EV2 is being towed with all four wheels on the ground, it can only be towed from the front. Verify that the vehicle is in N (Neutral) and the steering is unlocked by engaging the POWER ON position. A qualified driver must remain inside to manage steering and braking.

• Before towing, inspect the reducer area for fluid leaks beneath your vehicle. If reducer fluid leakage is detected, a flatbed truck or towing dolly must be utilized.
