Safe Exit Warning malfunction

  1. Check Driver Assistance system.

When the advanced Safe Exit Warning system in your Kia EV2 encounters a functional anomaly or is not working properly, the Master warning light (Kia EV2 instrument cluster master warning indicator icon) appears on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a dedicated warning message that remains visible for several seconds to ensure driver awareness. If the function does not work properly or fails to clear after a vehicle restart, have your vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for diagnostic evaluation.

  1. Check side view mirror warning light

When the outside rearview mirror warning light associated with the Kia EV2 safety suite is not working properly, the Master warning light (Kia EV2 instrument cluster general master warning light icon) appears prominently on the instrument cluster, along with a corresponding warning message that lasts for several seconds.

Promptly have your vehicle inspected by a professional workshop to ensure all active safety features remain fully operational. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

Safe Exit Warning disabled

When foreign material such as accumulated snow, heavy slush, or driving rain covers the rear bumper near the rear corner radar sensors, or when you attach an external trailer or utility carrier, it can significantly reduce environmental detection performance and temporarily limit or disable the Safe Exit Warning functionality on your Kia EV2.

  1. Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked.

A clarifying warning message and the Master warning light (Kia EV2 instrument cluster master warning icon) will display clearly on the instrument cluster. Please note that this temporary state does not indicate a permanent hardware malfunction of the Safe Exit Warning system.

The Safe Exit Warning feature will resume normal operation as soon as you thoroughly remove any foreign material, such as snow, ice, or rain from the sensor face, or clear obstructions like trailers or mounted carriers from the rear bumper area, and then restart your Kia EV2.

If the Safe Exit Warning still does not operate properly after you remove foreign material such as snow or rain from the sensor or obstructions such as a trailer or carrier from the rear bumper, have your vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for assistance.

WARNING

  • Even when a warning message does not appear on the instrument cluster display, the Safe Exit Warning system in your Kia EV2 may not operate properly due to environmental interference.

  • The Safe Exit Warning may occasionally fail to operate properly in wide, open terrain where no surrounding reference objects are detected, or when the detection radar sensor is completely obscured by environmental debris immediately after you turn ON the vehicle.

TIP

You can conveniently check the real-time Safe Exit Warning status within the service message section of the utility information view on your instrument cluster display window.

TIP

Always remember to turn OFF Safe Exit Warning through your settings menu before you install or remove a towing trailer, luggage carrier, or other rear-mounted accessory. Turn ON Safe Exit Warning again once installation is fully completed.

Limitations of Safe Exit Warning

The Safe Exit Warning system integrated into your Kia EV2 may operate abnormally or experience unexpected interruptions under the following specific driving and parking circumstances:

  • The rear corner radar monitoring area is physically blocked or obstructed by nearby vehicles, concrete pillars, structural walls, or garage partitions.

  • You park and attempt to exit the vehicle in areas surrounded by dense, overgrown foliage or high grass.

  • You exit the vehicle where the road surface is excessively wet, flooded, or covered in standing water.

  • An approaching vehicle in the adjacent lane is moving at an extraordinarily high velocity or traveling extremely slowly.

TIP

For more technical information about the rear corner radar hardware used in your Kia EV2, refer to the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) documentation.

WARNING

  • The Safe Exit Warning system may fail to operate properly when parked or operating in environments subject to severe electromagnetic interference.

  • The Safe Exit Warning may not activate for approximately 3 seconds immediately after you restart your Kia EV2 or manually reinitialize the rear corner radar units.

  • Even after you restart the vehicle ignition, the Safe Exit Warning may continue to experience operational limitations if a physical obstruction or electronic fault persists.
