The exterior ultrasonic sensors continuously monitor surroundings, but the Parking Distance Warning on your Kia EV2 may experience temporary limitations or become disabled if snow, heavy rain, mud, or road debris obstructs the sensors. Review blocked sensor notifications in the utility information view of your instrument cluster, clean the exterior sensor lenses thoroughly to restore normal functionality, and consult an authorized service partner if errors persist.

The Master warning light () illuminates toward the affected vehicle zone whenever a sensor blockage or system fault occurs during active Parking Distance Warning operations. Detailed status reports for Forward, Side, and Reverse parking systems can be monitored directly through the utility information view window on your Kia EV2 driver display.

Limitations of Parking Distance Warning

The advanced Parking Distance Warning system integrated into your Kia EV2 may occasionally experience abnormal behavior, limited performance, or unexpected notifications under specific environmental or physical circumstances:

• Ice is on the sensor

  The sensor is covered with foreign material, such as snow, ice, or water. (Parking Distance Warning operates properly when you remove such substances from your Kia EV2 exterior.)

• The weather is extremely hot or cold, which can temporarily affect the acoustic sensitivity and electronic response of the exterior sensors.

• The sensor or sensor assembly has sustained physical damage from road impacts or minor collisions.

• You press the surface of the sensor hard or hit it directly with a hard object during cleaning or maintenance.

• You scratch the delicate surface of the sensor lens with a sharp object, disrupting proper ultrasonic wave propagation.

• You spray the sensors or their surrounding bumper areas directly with a high-pressure washer at close range.

• Objects emitting competing ultrasonic waves or loud high-frequency noises (such as an external vehicle horn, a loud motorcycle engine, or heavy vehicle air brakes) are operating nearby.

Furthermore, the Parking Distance Warning on your Kia EV2 may malfunction or deliver false alerts when:

• Heavy rain, dense moisture, or intense water spray is present on the road.

• Sheets of water flow continuously across the curved surface of the sensor housing.

• Affected by another vehicle’s active ultrasonic sensors operating nearby in tight parking structures.

  The sensor is covered with dense snow or packed ice.

• You are driving aggressively on an uneven dirt road, loose gravel path, or a route with dense overgrowth that interferes with the lower bumper clearance.

• External objects that generate conflicting ultrasonic frequencies are positioned near the sensor zone.

• The front or rear license plate is installed in a different spot from the original factory mounting location.

• The vehicle bumper height or the factory ultrasonic sensor installation layout has been aftermarket modified.

• You have attached aftermarket equipment, bike racks, or heavy accessories near the ultrasonic sensors on your Kia EV2.

It is also important to note that certain physical shapes and materials may not be detected reliably:

• Slim objects such as thin ropes, metal chains, or small vertical poles.

• Narrow objects, such as the sharp corners of a square concrete column or structural pillar.

• Objects that tend to absorb ultrasonic waves rather than reflecting them, such as heavy winter clothes, spongy material, or fresh fluffy snow.

• Objects shorter than 100 cm (40 in) in length and narrower than 14 cm (6 in) in diameter.

• Pedestrians, animals, or physical obstacles that are positioned excessively close to the ultrasonic sensors.

• Objects situated precisely in the blind lateral space between the front and rear side ultrasonic sensors, or objects rapidly approaching that lateral gap.
