Smart Cruise Control may operate abnormally or unexpectedly under the following challenging circumstances during your daily drives in the Kia EV2:

  • The detection sensor or its surrounding areas are contaminated with mud, dirt, snow, or physical damage.

  • Washer fluid is continuously sprayed onto the glass, or the windshield wiper is actively ON.

  • The camera lens is obscured by a windscreen tint, protective film, specialized coating, damaged glass, or foreign objects on the glass such as a sticker or trapped insect.

  • There is excessive moisture, condensation, or ice accumulated on the windscreen.

  • Intense glare from the low or setting sun obstructs the front view camera’s field of view.

  • Streetlights or brilliant light from an oncoming vehicle are sharply reflected on a wet, rain-slicked road.

  • The ambient temperature near the front view camera is exceptionally high or low.

  • There is an intrusive reflective object placed on top of the instrument panel.

  • Your Kia EV2 surroundings are excessively bright or pitch dark.

  • The ambient brightness changes abruptly and rapidly, for example, when you enter or exit a dark highway tunnel.

  • The external brightness is low, and your headlights are not turned ON or lack sufficient illumination brightness.

  • You are driving through torrential heavy rain, blinding snowstorms, or thick, dense fog.

  • You are driving through thick steam, dense smoke, or deep overhead bridge shadows.

  • Only a fractional part of a vehicle ahead is detected by the sensors.

  • A vehicle ahead has completely missing tail lights or the tail lights are positioned in atypical, non-standard locations.

  • The external brightness is low, and the tail lights of a vehicle ahead are switched off or lack brightness.

  • The rear profile of a vehicle ahead is unusually small or does not look structurally normal, such as being tilted or overturned.

  • A vehicle ahead features exceptionally low or high ground clearance.

  • Another vehicle suddenly cuts sharply in ahead of your Kia EV2.

  • Your vehicle is currently being towed by another vehicle.

  • Unusual shapes reflected on wet road surfaces or highly reflective debris on the road are incorrectly detected as physical obstacles.

  • The road surface is heavily contaminated with small particles possessing a completely different color than the surrounding road surface, such as fine sand.

  • The perceived type of the detected object differs fundamentally from the actual physical object.

  • Intense light from a rigid object like a metallic guardrail or nearby vehicle reflects directly off the front radar.

  • The vehicle bumper near the front radar receives a physical impact or damage, or the front radar module is physically shifted out of alignment.

  • The operational temperature near the front radar unit is exceptionally high or low.

  • The vehicle ahead is constructed from specialized materials that fail to reflect radar waves from the front radar.

  • You are driving near a bustling highway interchange, complex intersection, or tollgate plaza.

  • You are driving on a slippery road surface rendered hazardous by snow, heavy rain, or black ice.

  • You are navigating along a sharply winding or curved road.

  • A vehicle traveling ahead is detected late due to environmental blind spots.

  • A vehicle ahead is suddenly blocked from sensor view by an unexpected obstacle.

  • A vehicle ahead abruptly changes lanes or slams on the brakes to reduce speed.

  • A vehicle ahead is heavily covered with accumulated snow, obscuring its outline.

  • Your own driving trajectory is erratic or unstable.

  • You are driving through a traffic circle or roundabout where a vehicle ahead momentarily escapes detection.

  • You are continuously driving in a tight circle.

  • Severe adverse road conditions cause excessive vehicle vibration that shakes the sensors.

  • Your Kia EV2 vehicle height is abnormally low or high due to heavy cargo loads, incorrect tire pressure, or suspension modifications.

  • You are driving under specialized environmental conditions:

    • Within a multi-level or open parking lot structure.

    • Through an active construction zone, unpaved road, partially paved track, uneven terrain, or aggressive speed bumps.

    • On a steep incline or tightly curving mountain road.

    • Directly alongside a roadside dense with low-hanging trees or flickering streetlights.

    • On a narrow rural lane flanked by overgrown foliage and bushes.

    • Through intense electromagnetic fields, such as industrial zones with strong radio emissions or heavy electrical noise.

  • You are driving straight through a long dark tunnel or a covered bridge.

  • You are driving near industrial areas laden with large amounts of metal, such as active construction sites, heavy railroad crossings, or roads covered with temporary metal plates.

  • You are driving in wide-open rural or desert areas where there are virtually no surrounding vehicles or roadside structures to anchor sensor calculations.

  • Driving on a curved road

    On curves, Smart Cruise Control may occasionally fail to detect a leading vehicle situated in the same lane, causing your Kia EV2 to temporarily accelerate up to the set speed. Conversely, your vehicle speed may rapidly decrease if a leading vehicle is detected suddenly.

    Always select an appropriate set speed suited for sharp curves, and proactively engage the brake pedal or release the accelerator pedal according to the evolving road and traffic conditions ahead.

    Smart Cruise Control may inadvertently reduce your vehicle speed due to the presence of another vehicle traveling closely in an adjacent lane.

    Always verify that prevailing road conditions permit the safe operation of your Kia EV2. If necessary, manually engage the brake pedal to gracefully reduce your speed and secure a safe following distance.

  • Driving on an inclined road

    When you drive uphill or downhill on steep slopes, Smart Cruise Control may temporarily lose track of a moving vehicle in your lane, causing your Kia EV2 to accelerate toward the designated set speed. Your vehicle speed will then decrease rapidly if a vehicle ahead is re-detected abruptly.

    Select a prudent set speed when tackling significant inclines, and be prepared to engage the brake pedal or accelerator pedal manually based on changing road contours.

  • Changing lanes

    When another vehicle (2) merges into your lane from an adjacent lane, external sensors cannot detect it until it enters the active physical detection range. Smart Cruise Control may experience a slight delay in recognizing a vehicle that cuts in abruptly. You must always maintain an alert braking buffer and immediately step on the brake pedal if traffic conditions demand it.

  • Detecting a vehicle

    The integrated sensor array cannot reliably detect certain specific categories of vehicles or obstacles:

    • Vehicles driving offset to one extreme side of the lane.

    • Abnormally slow-moving or abruptly decelerating traffic.

    • High-clearance vehicles or trucks carrying oversized loads that protrude dangerously out of the rear.

    • Commercial vehicles with front profiles lifted unnaturally due to heavy cargo weight distribution.

    • Vehicles lingering within approximately 6 ft (2m) of your Kia EV2 bumpers.

    • Oncoming vehicles heading directly toward you in opposing lanes.

    • Completely stationary or parked vehicles.

    • Vehicles possessing a very narrow rear profile, such as compact utility trailers.

    • Narrow road users, such as motorcycles, scooters, or bicycles.

    • Specialty utility or construction vehicles.

    • Animals and pedestrians crossing the roadway.

    Always pay undivided attention to the road and surrounding traffic environment to ensure safe driving in your Kia EV2. If necessary, manually adjust your vehicle speed. Furthermore, the sensor system cannot reliably detect a vehicle ahead if:

    • You are actively steering your vehicle through turns.

    • You are driving along exceptionally narrow or sharply twisting roads.

  • When a vehicle ahead disappears from view at an intersection

    When a leading vehicle temporarily disappears from your direct line of sight at an intersection or curve, your Kia EV2 may automatically accelerate to match the previous set speed.

    Always maintain high situational awareness regarding road dynamics and active traffic signals.

  • When a vehicle ahead of you changes lanes

    When a vehicle directly ahead of you maneuvers into another lane, Smart Cruise Control may experience a brief processing delay before recognizing a newly exposed vehicle further down the road.

    Always keep your eyes focused on the evolving road layout and surrounding vehicle movements.

  • Always look out for pedestrians

    Always look out for vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists whenever your Kia EV2 is actively maintaining a pre-set following distance from traffic ahead.
