A convenient wireless smartphone charging system is smartly integrated right in front of the center console inside the cabin of the Kia EV2.

  2. Nonslip wireless charging pad surface

Ensure all doors are firmly closed and start the vehicle systems. To initiate wireless power transfer, simply place any compatible smartphone equipped with built-in wireless charging capabilities directly onto the center of the wireless charging pad in your Kia EV2.

For optimum wireless charging efficiency and speed, always position your smartphone squarely on the absolute center of the active charging pad.

The wireless charging system is engineered exclusively to power a single smartphone equipped with Qi certification. Please check your smartphone accessory cover design or consult the manufacturer's official specifications to verify Qi compatibility before use.

NOTE

If any foreign metallic items, such as coins or paperclips, are accidentally left between the wireless charging surface and your smartphone, power transfer may be interrupted, and the metal object can heat up significantly.

Wireless smartphone charging

  1. Clear all unrelated objects, including smart keys and coins, off the smartphone charging pad before use. If any foreign debris or non-compatible items remain on the pad, the wireless charging function may fail to operate correctly.

  2. Place your smartphone flat and centered directly on top of the wireless charging pad area.

  3. The status indicator light will glow amber to signify that active wireless charging is underway. Once the battery reaches full capacity, the amber light will switch over to a solid green color.

  4. You can easily toggle the wireless charging function between enabled and disabled states through the central infotainment display system settings menu.

If charging does not begin immediately, gently slide your smartphone around on the pad until the indicator light illuminates amber. Note that certain smartphone models may keep the indicator light amber or fail to turn green even after a full charge cycle is complete.

If a charging fault or obstruction is detected, the orange indicator light will flash intermittently for 10 seconds before turning off entirely. Lift your smartphone off the pad and place it down again, or verify your phone's placement and charging status.

If you leave your smartphone behind on the charging pad when turning the vehicle OFF and opening the front door, the Kia EV2 will issue an audible chime and a visual warning message on the instrument cluster screen.

Please note that certain smartphone manufacturers do not support automated left-behind alerts due to their internal software design, which is completely normal and does not represent a vehicle system malfunction.

WARNING

Distracted driving

Driving while distracted can result in a loss of vehicle control, potentially leading to a serious collision, severe personal injury, or fatal consequences. The driver's absolute priority is the safe, attentive, and lawful operation of the vehicle at all times. Operating handheld devices, looking away from the road, or engaging with auxiliary systems that divert your attention from driving is dangerous and should never be done while the Kia EV2 is in motion.

CAUTION

Liquid in wireless charging system

To avoid permanent electrical short circuits and internal hardware damage, take great care never to spill drinks, water, or liquids over the wireless smartphone charging console.

NOTE

Metal in wireless charging system

If metallic items like keys, foil wrappers, or coins become trapped between the charging pad and your phone, charging will be disrupted instantly. These metal objects will absorb electromagnetic energy, heat up rapidly, and risk damaging both your device and the Kia EV2 charging pad. Remove your phone immediately and let any hot object cool completely before handling.

NOTE

  • If the internal operating temperature of the wireless charging unit climbs beyond predetermined safety thresholds, charging will pause automatically. Normal charging operation will resume as soon as the internal components cool down.

  • Thick, rugged, or heavy protective accessory cases on your smartphone can create excessive distance from the coils and prevent wireless charging from working properly.

  • To prevent localized electromagnetic radio wave interference, wireless charging pauses temporarily whenever you trigger the digital smart key search function.

  • Wireless charging execution will be interrupted if the validated smart key is taken out of the vehicle cabin while the Kia EV2 is in the POWER ON position or the READY indicator is active.

  • Opening any cabin door will instantly halt wireless charging operations for safety.

  • Turning the vehicle ignition completely off terminates power to the charging pad.

  • If the mobile device shifts out of alignment and loses proper contact with the internal induction coils, charging will cease.

  • Sensitive items containing magnetic strips, such as credit cards, transit passes, or hotel room keys, can suffer permanent data erasure or physical damage if placed on the active charging pad.

  • For best results, align your smartphone dead center on the pad. Placing it near the outer edges can drastically slow down charging speeds and cause excessive thermal buildup in the device battery.

  • Phones lacking native wireless power receivers require an approved external adapter sleeve or patch to function on the pad.

  • Some mobile devices may display on-screen warnings regarding low input current, which stems from phone software calibration and does not indicate a fault in the vehicle.

  • Certain smartphone brands maintain an orange LED status state even after reaching a 100% charge due to their proprietary power management logic.

  • Laying non-compatible items or unverified objects on the charging pad may produce a faint humming noise as the vehicle queries the device for compatibility, which is completely harmless.

  • The wireless charging system may fail to interface with older mobile hardware that lacks proper Qi specification certification (Qi certification trademark logo symbol indicating wireless charging compatibility on the Kia EV2 center console).

  • Always place your device squarely in the middle of the storage bay to maximize energy transfer efficiency, minimize charging times, and prevent thermal throttling.

  • Smartphones equipped with aggressive thermal protection routines may scale back their intake current or pause charging entirely when operating in warm environments.

  • Only devices featuring integrated or properly adapted wireless power receivers can be charged on this system.

  • The integrated cooling fan inside the wireless charging compartment may emit a subtle operational hum to manage device temperatures during fast power transfer sessions.

  • A mild temperature increase in your phone during wireless charging is completely normal. However, running heavy background apps like navigation or media streaming simultaneously can cause severe heat accumulation, forcing the phone or pad to pause charging to cool down safely.

  • An internal cooling blower operates automatically during active wireless sessions to dissipate heat, meaning faint fan sounds may occasionally be heard from the console area.

TIP

Wireless charging speeds can vary widely based on individual manufacturer power protocols and thermal limits; consult your smartphone user guide to find its maximum supported wireless input wattage.
