Kia EV2: Steering wheel / Steering wheel grip sensor

Kia EV2 (QV1, 2026-2026) Owner's Manual / Driver adjustments / Steering wheel / Steering wheel grip sensor

While operating your Kia EV2 with advanced Driver Assistance systems engaged, the integrated steering wheel grip sensor constantly detects whether you are maintaining physical contact with the steering wheel, automatically issuing a Hands-off warning if your hands are not detected.

For more details on system activation and behavior, refer to Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).

NOTE

The steering wheel sensor may fail to operate correctly if the following precautions are neglected:

  • Do not modify, tamper with, or replace the original steering wheel cover.

  • Do not attach aftermarket accessories or decorative items onto the rim of the steering wheel.

  • Do not allow electronic equipment such as laptops or tablets to rest against or contact the steering wheel.

  • Do not permit metallic or conductive containers, including tumblers and beverage cans, to come into contact with the steering wheel surface.

  • Avoid excessive exposure to moisture from wet tissues, spilled liquids, or steam cleaning vapor.

Wearing heavy gloves or utilizing steering wheel covers, knobs, or custom wraps can prevent the sensitive capacitive sensors in your Kia EV2 from accurately detecting your hands even when you are firmly gripping the wheel.
