Limitations of Lane Keeping Assist

The Lane Keeping Assist system in your Kia EV2 may occasionally encounter operational limitations or exhibit unexpected behavior under specific driving conditions, including but not limited to the following scenarios:

• The lane surface is contaminated, obscured, or rendered difficult for the optical sensors to detect because:

  • The painted lane markings or designated road edges are heavily covered with rain, snow, accumulated dirt, grime, oil spills, or similar substances.

  • The color or visual contrast of the lane marking or road edge blends into the surrounding pavement, making it indistinguishable from the road surface.

  • There are extra markings, tracks, or temporary lines near the active lane that closely resemble official lane markings.

  • The target lane marking or road edge is severely faded, worn out, indistinct, or physically damaged.

  • Shadows cast by roadside structures (such as median barriers, crash barriers, acoustic noise walls, or nearby bushes) or shadows from other vehicles fall across the lane.

  • A long linear object or debris is lying across or along the road surface.

  • The road pavement features prominent longitudinal cracks or repair seams.

• The lane numbering structure changes, lanes merge or diverge, or multiple lane markings and road edges cross over one another.

• There are more than two distinct lane markings or parallel road edges visible within the sensor's field of view.

• The road layout or lane markings are unusually complex, or temporary structures replace standard lines, such as through active construction zones.

• There are distracting supplementary road markings present, such as painted crosswalks, arrows, or highway signs.

• The lane width changes abruptly or disappears entirely, such as at open intersections or toll plazas.

• The driving lane or overall road structure is excessively wide or extremely narrow.

• You are driving along an unpaved road edge or a shoulder boundary lacking defined lane lines.

• There are prominent boundary structures directly within or beside the roadway, such as tollgate installations, elevated sidewalks, or raised concrete kerbs.

• You are driving directly inside a dedicated bus-only lane or travelling in an adjacent lane right next to a bus lane.

• Your Kia EV2 is driving extremely close behind a preceding vehicle, which physically obstructs the camera view of the lane markings or road edge.
