For best battery service

Routine inspection of the 12V auxiliary power unit ensures reliable electrical functionality across all onboard electronic control systems.

• Keep the 12V battery securely installed within its dedicated mounting tray to prevent harmful vibrations and physical displacement during vehicle operation.
• Keep the top of the 12V battery clean and dry to eliminate stray current leakage and surface contamination.
• Keep the terminals and connections clean, tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or terminal grease to protect against oxidation and corrosion.
• Immediately rinse any spilled electrolyte from the 12V battery using a solution of water and baking soda to neutralize corrosive acid residues safely.
• If you do not plan to use the vehicle for an extended period of time, disconnect the 12V battery cables to prevent gradual parasitic discharge and preserve overall cell longevity.

NOTE

Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free 12V battery. If your vehicle’s 12V battery is marked with LOWER and UPPER on the side, you can check the electrolyte level. The electrolyte level should be between the LOWER and UPPER marks. If the electrolyte level is low, add distilled (demineralized) water. (Never add sulfuric acid or other electrolytes.) When refilling, be careful not to splash the 12V battery and adjacent components. Do not overfill the 12V battery cells, as this can cause corrosion on other parts. Make sure to tighten the cell caps. Contact a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner to maintain optimal factory standards for your Kia EV2.

WARNING

Risk of explosion

	Keep lit cigarettes and all other flames or sparks away from the 12V battery.
	The 12V battery contains hydrogen, a highly combustible gas that will explode if it comes into contact with a flame or spark.
	Keep 12V batteries out of reach of children because 12V batteries contain highly corrosive sulfuric acid and electrolytes. Do not allow 12V battery acid to come into contact with your skin, eyes, clothing, or your vehicle’s paint finish.
	Wear eye protection when charging or working near a 12V battery. Always have proper ventilation when working in an enclosed space.
	Always read instructions carefully when handling a 12V battery.
	If electrolyte gets into your eyes, flush your eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention. If electrolyte gets on your skin, thoroughly wash the affected area. If you feel pain or a burning sensation, seek immediate medical attention.
	An inappropriately disposed 12V battery can be harmful to the environment and human health. Dispose of the 12V battery according to your local laws or regulations.
	The 12V battery contains lead. Do not dispose of it after use. Please return the 12V battery to an authorised Kia dealer/service partner to be recycled.

Never attempt to recharge the 12V battery when the 12V battery cables are connected.

WARNING

Risk of electrocution

Never touch the electrical ignition system whilst the vehicle is running. This system works with high voltage, which can shock you.

CAUTION

12V battery lead compound

12V battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash your hands after handling these parts.

TIP

If you connect unauthorised electronic devices to the 12V battery, the 12V battery may be discharged. Never use unauthorised devices.

12V battery recharging

If the 12V battery discharges, start the vehicle for at least 60 minutes, either driving or idling. Alternatively, you may connect a fully automatic regulated charger to the motor compartment front jumper posts or to the 12V battery.

When recharging the 12V battery, take the following precautions:

• Remove the 12V battery from the vehicle and place it in an area with good ventilation.

• Do not allow cigarettes, sparks, or flame near the 12V battery.

• Watch the 12V battery whilst it charges, and stop or reduce the charging rate in the following cases:

  1. The 12V battery cells begin boiling violently.

  2. The electrolyte temperature of any cell is above 49 °C (120 °F).

• Wear eye protection when you check the 12V battery whilst it is charging.

• Before performing maintenance or recharging the 12V battery, turn off all accessories and stop the vehicle.

• Disconnect the 12V battery charger in the following order:

  1. Turn off the 12V battery charger main switch.

  2. Unhook the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.

  3. Unhook the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.

• The negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last when the 12V battery is disconnected.

WARNING

AGM battery

• Absorbent Glass Matt (AGM) batteries are maintenance-free. Have it serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

  To charge your AGM battery, use only fully automatic battery chargers that are specially developed for AGM batteries.

• When replacing the AGM battery, have it replaced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

• Do not open or remove the cap on top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolytes to leak, which could result in severe injury.

12V battery capacity label

The Kia model name of battery, indicating the precise factory-certified part number specified for the Kia EV2 electrical architecture. The nominal voltage, ensuring electrical compatibility with all onboard computerized control modules and auxiliary vehicle circuits. The nominal capacity (in Ampere hours), representing the total electrical energy storage volume available to support electronic systems during standby. The cold-test current in amperes by SAE, determining the reliable starting and high-load power delivery performance under cold ambient temperatures. The nominal reserve capacity (in min.), indicating how long the battery can sustain essential electrical loads if the primary charging cycle is interrupted. The cold-test current in amperes by EN, providing standardized European ratings for rigorous cranking and electrical stability under severe weather conditions.

The actual battery label in the vehicle may differ from the illustration depending on production batches, regional manufacturing standards, and specific equipment tiers configured for your Kia EV2.

Reset the following items after the battery has been discharged or disconnected to restore full electronic functionality across your Kia EV2 systems:
