Press and hold the dedicated Parking Safety button (Kia EV2 physical Parking Safety button icon) on your console for more than 2 seconds to toggle the advanced Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system ON or OFF according to your preference.

Operating conditions

When the intelligent Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist on your Kia EV2 detects an elevated risk of collision with pedestrians or unseen objects directly behind the vehicle, an audible warning sounds promptly, the steering wheel vibrates to alert your hands, and a clear warning message appears on the digital instrument cluster. If your Surround View Monitor is active, the central infotainment screen also displays a corresponding safety warning graphic.

If the evaluated risk of a backing collision becomes critical and urgent, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist automatically takes control of the vehicle’s braking system to mitigate impact.

Tap Backward Safety within the Parking Safety configuration menu on your infotainment display screen. The safety system is fully enabled and ready when the following operating conditions are met:

  • The vehicle tailgate and all passenger doors are securely closed.

  • The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is completely released.

  • The transmission gear selector is shifted firmly into R (Reverse).

  • Your vehicle speed is below 10 km/h (6 mph) when scanning for moving pedestrians.

  • Your vehicle speed is below 4 km/h (1 mph) when scanning for stationary physical objects.

  • All Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist hardware components, such as the wide-rear view camera and rear ultrasonic sensors, are fully operational and free of obstruction.

When Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist activates successfully, a dynamic tracking line appears at the bottom of the vehicle silhouette graphic displayed in the instrument cluster.

TIP

To preserve battery and computing resources, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist operates only once immediately after you shift the transmission gear selector into R (Reverse). To re-engage or reactivate the function during complex maneuvers, simply shift out of reverse and back into R (Reverse).

Non-operating conditions

If Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist detects a potential collision risk between your Kia EV2 and a pedestrian or obstacle, the system warns you via an audible buzzer and an accompanying message on the instrument cluster display. If your infotainment system screen is powered ON, a secondary visual warning appears there as well.

If an impact becomes imminent, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist can actively assist you with emergency braking intervention.

The automated braking assistance automatically releases after 5 minutes to prevent system lockups. You must immediately press down firmly on the physical brake pedal and manually verify your surroundings.

Furthermore, braking assistance also releases immediately under any of the following driver actions:

  • You shift the transmission gear selector into P (Park) or D (Drive).

  • You apply manual braking force with sufficient power using the brake pedal.

  • You dismiss the active warning notification by shifting to P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive).

TIP

When Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist concludes its active braking intervention while reversing, braking control is safely released after 5 minutes, and the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) engages automatically to hold the vehicle securely.
